Dielectric-lined cylindrical metallic THz waveguides: mode structure and dispersion.
Thin dielectric layers deposited on the inner surface of hollow cylindrical metallic waveguides for Terahertz (THz) waves reduce transmission losses below 1 dB/m. Impact of the dielectric layer on the waveguide dispersion is experimentally investigated by near-field mapping of guided short THz pulses at the input and the output of the waveguide. We obtain dispersion characteristics for the low-...
متن کاملTalbot effect in cylindrical waveguides
We extend the theory of Talbot revivals for planar or rectangular geometry to the case of cylindrical waveguides. We derive a list of conditions that are necessary to obtain revivals in cylindrical waveguides. A phase space approach based on the Wigner and the Kirkwood-Rihaczek functions provides a pictorial representation of TM modes interference associated with the Talbot effect.
متن کاملDynamical Casimir effect with cylindrical waveguides
I consider the quantum electromagnetic field in a coaxial cylindrical waveguide, such that the outer cylindrical surface has a time-dependent radius. The field propagates parallel to the axis, inside the annular region between the two cylindrical surfaces. When the mechanical frequency and the thickness of the annular region are small enough, only Transverse Electromagnetic (TEM) photons may be...
متن کاملRotational acoustic resonances in cylindrical waveguides
An investigation is made into the existence of rotational acoustic resonances in a circular cylindrical waveguide, and their frequencies of oscillation are calculated numerically. The guide is assumed to contain a number of radial fins which have finite extent, and which are distributed at equal azimuthal angles around the guide. A variational principle is used to prove the existence of differe...
متن کاملBiochemical networks with uncertain parameters.
The modelling of biochemical networks becomes delicate if kinetic parameters are varying, uncertain or unknown. Facing this situation, we quantify uncertain knowledge or beliefs about parameters by probability distributions. We show how parameter distributions can be used to infer probabilistic statements about dynamic network properties, such as steady-state fluxes and concentrations, signal c...
